You’re walking along a narrow path through the Scottish Highlands when you hear something strange. Water splashing. At first, you think it’s an animal moving through the stream. But then you hear it again, followed by the unmistakable sound of someone wringing out wet clothing. You stop. It’s late, the light is fading, and you […]
There was a ritual people performed on a lonely set of railroad tracks on the south side of San Antonio. It didn’t require candles. There were no mirrors. No words to repeat in the dark. All you needed was a car. And maybe a little baby powder. Drive to the railroad crossing near Shane and
When the people of Devon woke on the morning of February 9, 1855, the countryside was covered in snow. But something had crossed it during the night. At first, the tracks looked almost ordinary. Small hoofprints pressed neatly into the snow. One after another. Except there was something wrong with them. They traveled in a
ou hear a child screaming somewhere in the woods. Not laughing. Not playing. Screaming. You stop on the trail and listen. There it is again. A little girl. She sounds frightened. Maybe hurt. So you do what most people would do. You go looking for her. The trees grow thicker as you follow the cries.
The platform is nearly empty. It’s late enough that the crowds have disappeared, leaving only the hum of fluorescent lights and the occasional sound of footsteps somewhere farther down the station. The kind of chair you might expect to find beside a fireplace in an old English pub. Except this one isn’t sitting on
You’re staying in an old English manor when you notice something strange. It sits quietly in a niche near the staircase. A human skull. You stare at it for a moment, waiting for someone to explain why it’s there. Maybe it’s a replica. Some strange family heirloom. A leftover curiosity from centuries ago. Then your
You step into the tunnel after dark. Behind you, the last of the evening light disappears between the trees. Ahead, the stone passage stretches into darkness, damp and cold, with water somewhere underfoot and every little sound bouncing back at you. Someone hands you a match. The rules are simple. Walk to the middle of
